God is not done with me yet...

A few months ago I was ready to hang it up. I was TIRED! I have been living here since 1969, started working in the boys dorm when I was 14 years old, became a teacher at 18, in 1981 I became the school principal, a couple years later principal and staff director and around 1986 became one of the executive directors. My responsibilities were; school director, staff director, visiting groups coordinator, liaison between the children and their parents, Ranch pastor/spiritual leadership, Ranch representative and speaker at churches and conferences, husband, father and much more. Over the years the toll of losing 2 brothers (one in a car accident the other pancreatic cancer) and one sister (leukemia), watching my parents die, watching a dear friend of ours die in my car as I rushed him to the hospital, watching my wife almost die, the work and pressures here, the many travels and constantly dealing with back pain almost forced over the edge. It got to the point where I was afraid (and still am to a degree), that if one more personal tragedy were to beset me, I would lose it. I had even asked a couple of senior staff members to take my place, because I wanted to step down. They couldn't, because they were moving to Guatemala to work at a deaf ministry there. So, what to do? Some people on my mission board suggested admitting me to one month of counseling and therapy. Not wanting to be away from my family for a whole month, I nixed that plan. Instead I took the summer off. No speaking dates, no traveling. just stay home, be with my family and get better. First of all my wonderful doctor (Thank you Dr Patricia) helped me get off pain meds. I had been taking them for 2 years, started taking too many, so I needed to quit. That was NOT fun. However thanks to an amazing medicine called Suboxone, It was not as bad. Once off the pain meds I began seeking alternative pain relief, acupuncture, electro therapy, hanging upside-down, stretches and etc, it's helping a little. The next step was to see a Christian counselor. So every other week I drove to Chula Vista and met with a counselor that was recommended to me by the church that ordained me. His name is Dennis Harris and he is a good guy. The final and most important step was; getting back to Jesus, spending more time with Him, in prayer and His word. For a long time I have been dealing with anger issues with God for all that He has allowed my family and I to go through. I'm still not completely over it and it still bugs me that my beautiful wife had to go through the brain aneurysm, surgery, strokes and everything that has altered her life forever (or at least till she gets to heaven). Almost every time I see her struggling to walk it saddens and bugs me, but I am not as angry at God as before and I press on. The cool thing about God is He is like our dads, we can get made at dad, but he still loves us, God will always love us too.
So where am I going with all this? I am feeling the best I have felt in like over 2 years, both physically and spiritually. I am excited once again about serving at this amazing ministry, and good thing too, because God has some big plans. Stay tuned for those plans, and other stuff that I'm going to be doing.

My Half Century,

On July 18th, I became 50 years old! Wow, I have packed a lot in my 50 years of life. I have also suffered a lot in my 50 years of life, however, here I am! Only by the grace of God I carry on. I had a killer party with a bunch of my friends from both sides of the border. It was amazing, live music by Dino & Rugerrio, a world class paella, regional & California wines, games, fireworks, friends and family. It was a very special night and I thank God, my family and my wonderful friends. here is a link where you can see the photos.

Star Trek 2009.

Finally saw the new Star trek movie last night. It was great!  I don't understand how the guy sitting two seats over from me kept falling asleep, I think it had something to do with what ever he kept drinking wrapped up in his jacket. Anyway, Thank you JJ Abrams for making a movie that didn't suck. And thank you Sylar/Spock for not cutting the top of Kirks head off.  Uhura was a babe when she was young. Thank you Leonard Nimoy for showing up. And where was Winona Ryder in the movie?

Oh Canada!

Hey, I'm in Kelowna Canada right now with my brother Eddie and visiting with some good friends, Terry & Scott and their families.  Visited the Mission Hill winery which was beautiful, had a yummy snack of different cheeses, with an amazing view of the valley and Lake.
Later went to the harbor had Pizza.
Bumped into Craig McTavish who used to be the
coach of the Edmonton Oilers till fired in April, he also played alongside Wayne Grezky  (also Craig McTavish was the last NHL player to not wear a helmet in a game.)  Some useless trivia for you there.
Tomorrow I will be sharing at Lake Country Church in Kelwona, and there will be a movie screening tomorrow night.  Over all having a good time with my brother. Stay tuned, hope to get more pictures from my Ireland trip.

Another great day in Dublin...

Well the day started off raining and me sitting on the top of an open air double decker bus, but loving every minute and every rain drop. Took a loop around all the cool and scenic places of Dublin. Got off the bus and toured the kilmainham gaol prison, filled with history and scary cells, finished the bus ride, took an nap then off to a soccer game between the Bohemians & Dundalk. That was GREAT!!!

Some pictures from today: More later... I want to give a shout out to my cousin Ann Lechuga: "Thanks for all the good advice, having a blast".

Day 2 in Ireland:

Nothing yet, we just got started. Raining like crazy, glad I brought that $200 (It was on sale!) North Face rain coat. We are off to see a bunch of really old buildings. Yesterday was great. More pictures coming soon. Miss you all.

Our first day in Dublin, Ireland.

Well here we are, I can't belive it. yesterday Wednesday morning at 11:30am we were in San Diego, Now we're standing on the OConnell bridge in downtown Dublin. pretty cool. After unsuccesfully trying to sleep on the plane, which is hard when you are 6'3 and the seats we're made for the hobbits on the plane, we groggly arrived. Took the cool double decker bus to the hotel (pictures of the hotel later). We went for a walk, here are some of the sights:

O'Connell Statue (My cousins are O'Connells)

It still has not really sunk in that we are half a world away. Josh was tired in this picture, but he is having fun. But it's pretty amazing. Everybody smokes here! and lots of pubs.

Below are just a few pictures of our first few hours here.

This was my first stop when we arrived in Dublin: COFFEE!

A couple more things...

Went to the Airplane museum on the way home from Riverside. Sammy loved it. I love this picture. Check out the name of the plane...

Also, thinking about buying this car 1941 Packard... But my good buddy keeps asking me why?

Simi Valley

Well here I am in Simi Valley, the safest city in California, or so they say.  No cartel, drug guys chopping your head off or federales shaking you down for 20 bucks. So I guess it's safe. Been busy lately.  Near the end of March I was in Winston-Salem for 5 days attending a missions conference, it was great! Below is me speaking in English, signing in ASL and the man standing next to me is translating into Spanish. A tri-lingual service.
I then flew to Seattle for a meeting that got cancelled, which was OK because I flew back to San Diego on first class with Virgin air. That was a blast.  Richard Branson got it right. All airlines should be like his. Had a 4 hour layover in san Francisco, so I took the train to pier 39 and had a clam chowder.
Yummy. Saw a big head.

I got back to the Ranch in time to hang out with a wonderful group of people from Oregon. then I was off to Riverside, California Baptist University for a screening of "Hearing Everett". They put us (Josefina and sammy went with me), up in a very nice swanky hotel. The Mission Inn.  It even had a special place for little boys.
The movie screening was nice and my wife made some new friends and had a fun time.
I'm gonner stop now, because, this is getting all jumbled up.

The latest...

Well today is Wednesday. Last weekend I was in Riverside for a movie screening at California Baptist University. It was a very cool outdoor screening, so a shout out and thank you to Daniel Blair for making it happen. A few people stood up after the movie and dedicated their lives to Jesus. Yay!
While there we (my wife and Sammy went with me) stayed at a very cool hotel, you would think there wouldn't be anything in "downtown" Riverside, but downtown was actually pretty cool. We stayed at the Mission Inn, a very cool very old castle looking hotel. Pretty swanky. This place was huge and a maze, I don't know how management keeps up, there are so many rooms, nooks, stairs, patios, hallways, restaurants,  and etc. I bet you there are people hiding out living there that no one knows about. I bet Osama is hiding there.
Photos to follow soon.

My trip to North Carolina

Now that I have "deactivated" my Facebook account, I have more time to update my blog. So here goes, sorry for the long hiatus.
I recently went to Winston-Salem (I guess they couldn't make up their mind which name to use), to a large missions conference. It was great, the people were very nice and I had a wonderful time. I love going back East,  One of my favorite parts of going back east is the Waffle House. What an interesting piece of America.
